Missions Update – April 2010

April 3rd, 2010 by Smyrna Assembly of God

“For God so loved the world (that is you and me) that He gave…” These words from John 3:16-17 are probably the most well known words in the Bible. They are known not only by believers but multiple thousands of non-believers as well. There are several aspects of God’s nature shown in these short verses but the character of God that I would like to emphasize is that God is LOVE. God demonstrated that love in that while we were yet sinners, He sent His only son into the world to redeem mankind from our sin and restore us to God the Father. If we, being Christians and children of God, love Him as he loves us then we need to love our fellowman as God loves them and share the life saving Gospel of Jesus Christ both at home and abroad. We all have those in our sphere of influence that we can touch with the love of God and there are those abroad that we can touch with that same love through our prayers and our generosity through Faith Promise Giving.

Our missionaries report that thousands upon thousands around the world are coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and you Smyrna AG are part of that great harvest. So, thank you for loving your fellowman, for praying, for giving and for sending our missionaries to take the Gospel to those who have never heard. Thanks again!

Until All Have Heard,
Jeff Herman
Missions Director

Missions News March 2010

March 6th, 2010 by Smyrna Assembly of God

I would like to take a moment and share some remarks from a few of our missionaries when Pastor Osbon notified them of our continued or new Faith Promise support of their ministries.

Bob and Lynn Aston, our new missionaries to children wrote, “God bless you and your church so much. We are honored to be a part of your ministry team”.

Dr. Ron Marcotte is our new Healthcare missionary to Ecuador and wrote, “Thank you so very much for such a generous commitment. What a blessing! May God bless you and my Smyrna AG family.”
Bethany and Woody Griggs are our missionaries to an orphanage in Kenya and they wrote, “We praise God for His provision for us through Smyrna Assembly. We were supported by the prayers of our church while we were in Kenya and since our return, and now you are partnering with us financially that Christ’s name might be known in Oyuma, Migori, Kenya, and to the ends of the earth. We thank God for you”.

James and Maxine Andrews are our missionaries to Taiwan and james wrote, “Thank you for the notification that Smyrna Assembly will continue their financial support of our ministry in Taiwan. I want to express my deep appreciation to you and Smyrna Assembly for your support of our ministries here for almost 45 years.”

Now I would like to add my thanks to each of you for your continued support for our missionaries both prayerfully and financially. Thank you Smyrna AG

Missions: ALIVE & WELL

February 6th, 2010 by Smyrna Assembly of God

EVERYWHERE: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria. and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NIV

EVERYONE: “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9 NIV

EVERY WAY: “I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.” I Corinthians 9:22 NIV

These have been The Assemblies of God Mission Themes for the past 3 years. It spells out in no uncertain terms that we are to go “everywhere”, talk to “everyone” and in “everyway” possible present a clear and precise presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all those who have never heard. Over the last several weeks Pastor and the staff have preached and taught on “OUTFLOW’, “Outward Focused Living in a Self-focused World’. As children of God, our focus should be centered where our Lord and Savior had His focus “to seek and to save that which was lost” or to put it another way borrowing a phrase from the sermon Bill Strickland preached last year, “The heart-beat of God is SOULS”. As we obey God’s commands and seek to be more like Jesus our OUTFLOW or heart-beat will be for souls also. I would like to share some facts with you that I received from James Davis, cofounder of Billion Soul.

  1. Africa has 600 million Christians and per missiologist Philip Jenkins, this is the greatest shift in world history.
  2. China Has 45,000 new converts per day with 130 million Christians.
  3. India has nearly 15,000 come to Christ each day with 5 million decisions in 2009.
  4. Indonesia, a Muslim nation, has some of the largest churches in the world and the Christian population has grown from 1.3 million 40 years ago to 11 million today.
  5. In Vietnam, Protestant Christianity grew 600 percent this decade.
  6. The small island of Fiji had 200 church plants in 2009.
  7. In Uganda, leaders planted 1200 churches last year and are targeting 1 million new believers in 2010.
  8. In the U. S., signs of spiritual awakening are dawning as the Thomas Road Baptist Church baptized 1300 people last year.
  9. Korea sends more missionaries than any nation on earth.
  10. Nigeria hosts the largest prayer meeting in the world with 2 million each December.

These facts show that God is moving greatly throughout the world. You, Smyrna Assembly, are a part of that great move. As we partner with over 60 missionaries and mission groups we are touching souls world- wide but there is more yet for us to do and that brings us back to “Outward Focused Living”. In our everyday lives we need to be ready to take every opportunity to touch our fellowman with the love of God and to share that love with our families, friends, fellow workers, and all those that God puts in our daily paths. I want to thank each of you for your faithfulness in Faith Promise giving and in prayer. I do believe that the heart of this great church is to reach “souls” , “Everywhere, Everyone and Everyway”. Thank you once more!

Until All Have Heard,
Jeff Herman
Missions Director

470Have you considered what you will give to Missions in 2010? If you have not yet made a Faith Promise, please prayerfully ask the Lord what He would have you to do. No amount is too small….with everyone giving something we will be able to support our current Missionaries and hopefully add more. You may pick-up a Faith Promise Card at the Connection Center in the Main Foyer. Thank You for Giving to Missions!
